The Forum Design Case
Landesgalerie Linz / Linz 09 / Exhibition Design 2009
The international success of the forum design exhibition in Linz in 1980 was overshadowed by media conflicts while it was still running. The withdrawal of funding bodies and sponsors led to an unfortunate financial situation for the design show that resulted in criminal proceedings.
"Visually, too, the theme has been resolved in exemplary fashion. The tension how the 300 metre long Forum Design Zelthalle is conveyed in the historical Linz museum building quickly gives way to a clear sense of wonder. A simple shelving unit completely filled with white filing boxes is quoting the contemporaneous monolith, stretching right through the space. At the end (also on boxes) is a view going beyond the space to the opening scenario in the year 1980. On the rear wall is the situation of the construction now serving as tractor and waste storage. Simple existence instead of grand design, so to speak."
